Kogi State police command is set to charge three suspects to court over the killing of a primary school teacher, Mariam Usman after she disciplined an 11-year-old pupil in her school.
The court action is being taken after the conclusion of investigation into the death of Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by the command said that the three suspects would be prosecuted for alleged criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, disclosed that detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) launched an intensive investigation after a culpable homicide case was reported on June 25, 2026.
It said that the police investigations traced the incident to a dispute that began after the deceased reportedly disciplined the pupil during school hours.
The statement disclosed that Investigation established that on 17th June, 2026, Abdullahi Isiaka, described as the father of the pupil disciplined, assaulted the deceased at her residence over the disciplinary action she took against his son during school hours.
It said that the deceased while on her way to a mosque for prayers later on the same day, was again attacked by one Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
The command stated that the attacks continued the following day when Ojonojima Mary, identified as the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly went to the school and assaulted Usman at her workplace.
The statement said the Usman was first treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka for the injuries she suffered before being referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical attention.
It said the thrice assaulted Usman later died from her injuries on June 25.
The command said evidence gathered during the investigation established a prima facie case against Abdullahi Isiaka, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Ojonojima Mary.
“Consequently, the investigation has concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” the command stated.
The state Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the detectives for what he described as their professionalism, diligence and commitment in unraveling the case.
He restated the Command’s resolve to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice and assured residents that all criminal cases would continue to receive thorough and professional investigation.
The police chief implored members of the public to avoid taking laws into their hands, urging them to always seek lawful means of resolving disputes.
