The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kwara State has lifted all internal restrictions previously placed on persons and participation in activities of the state council of the NUJ.
This decision was consequent upon a renewed understanding between the chapel and the council.
In his acceptance speech after the inauguration of the chapel’s newly elected seven-man executive committee in Ilorin on Wednesday, the chairman of the chapel, Biola Azeez, said that the development has signalled restoration of full engagement with the affairs of the state council.
“The development is expected to foster greater collaboration among journalists in Kwara State and reinforce the shared commitment of both the council and the Correspondents’ Chapel to unity, professionalism and the advancement of the journalism profession”, he said.
Azeez also reaffirmed the chapel’s commitment to working harmoniously with the state council in advancing welfare of journalists and promoting professionalism within the union.
The chapel chairman expressed appreciation to the state council for the inauguration, describing it as a positive development that opens a fresh chapter in the relationship between the chapel and the council.
The inauguration saw the council chairman, Abdullateef Ahmed, formally swear in the seven-man executive, led by Biola Azeez, marking a significant step towards strengthening unity and cooperation within the union.
In his speech during the ceremony, Ahmed described the occasion as the beginning of a new phase of mutual understanding and collective progress.
He urged members of the new executive to discharge their responsibilities with courage, integrity and a commitment to the ideals of journalism, while emphasising the importance of unity across all chapels of the union.
