Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has implored members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State to fortify structure of the party by ensuring they hold their base at the grassroots level ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Saraki, the leader of the PDP in the state gave the charge even as he expressed confidence that the party would excel at the elections.
He gave the charge on Thursday at a PDP Kwara South Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held at his residence in Ilorin.
Saraki, according to a statement by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, commended party stakeholders in Kwara South for their sacrifices, loyalty and continued commitment to the PDP and its candidates.
He expressed confidence in the party’s candidates, saying they would prioritise the interests of the people and provide purposeful leadership capable of accelerating the development of the state.
Saraki, a former governor of the state, however, stressed that the PDP’s prospects in 2027 would depend largely on how effectively members organise and mobilise voters at the grassroots.
“Hold your base and polling units. That is what the party requires from everyone. Our collective commitment and resolve will do the job. Ensure you do everything possible at your polling units,” he said.
The PDP leader urged members to study the outcome of recent governorship elections, particularly in Osun and Ekiti states, and draw lessons that could strengthen the PDP’s preparations for 2027.
“We have lessons to learn from Osun and Ekiti governorship elections. We must understand what happened, learn from it and apply those lessons,” he said.
The politician said that every member of the PDP had a role to play in building strong and active structures capable of connecting effectively with voters.
He said that members who are committed to the party’s cause would continue to have a place in its future, stressing that the struggle was ultimately about the welfare of the people and the advancement of Kwara State.
He assured members that their sacrifices and contributions to the party would not be overlooked, as he urged them to remain united around the collective interest.
“Our political family values the commitment and sacrifices of its members. What is important is that nobody who has contributed to strengthening our collective effort will be forgotten. We must continue to build together and ensure that the party remains strong,” he stated.
He said that the PDP’s ultimate objective was to establish a government that would serve the people and promote the state’s overall development.
He declared confidently: “The next Governor of Kwara State shall be the one flying the PDP flag.”
The meeting was attended by the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu; Deputy Governorship Candidate, Rev. C.O.S. Fawenu; members of the state executive committee led by the Chairman, Hon. Isa Adamu Bawa; party elders and other National Assembly candidates.
