Man, 52, found dead in well in Ilorin

A man identified as Alaba Ayeni, has been found dead in a well near his residence in Ilorin, Kwara State
The man who was described as being of 52 years old was said to have been brought out of the well dead by a rescue team after children who noticed him in the well raised an alarm.
The incident happened on Tuesday at Asa-Dam area of Ilorin.
It is not however yet ascertained how he got into the well as there were speculations that he might have committed suicide by plunging himself into the well while the views that he might have inadvertently fallen into the well were also being expressed
People also raised suspicion of him being likely assassinated and had his corps dropped in the well by his suspected assailants.
It was learnt that after elders in the area were alerted of the discovery of the man in the well, a distress call was made to the Kwara State Fire Service, which arrived at the scene at about 8:42am and commenced a recovery operation.
The fire service personnel brought the man out of the well dead and handed the corpse over to DPO Bolaji of the Budo-Nuhu Police station for further necessary action.
The fire service, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the incident.
The state Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, according to the statement, expressed concern over the incident and urged residents to properly cover and secure domestic wells and other open water sources around residential areas.
Muhammed cautioned parents, guardians and community leaders against allowing children to move around unattended near wells, drainage channels and other potentially hazardous locations.
He said the precautionary measures were necessary to prevent similar accidents and protect lives within communities.
The fire service commiserated with the family and community of the deceased, while reaffirming its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across the state.
