A new couple returning from their wedding ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State, have been reportedly kidnapped by suspected bandits

The kidnapping was said to have taken place at around a boundary area that links Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states.

The couple, Reverend Abiodun and Funmilayo David, were kidnapped alongside four other people in their vehicle.

The incident occurred on Saturday as the people, after the wedding ceremony, were heading for Kogi State

It was learnt that the people decided to pass through Ekiti State in order to drop the Best Man and some other occupants of the vehicle at Iyamoye, a border town of Kogi State to Ekiti State.

They were however attacked by the bandits while on Iyemero-Eruku road, as they were taking Ekiti State side to Kogi State 

The bandits reportedly took them away to an unknown destination while no contact is said to have been established between them and their relations yet.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who confirmed the incident said security operatives had launched a search operation to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

He disclosed that soldiers were already combing the surrounding bush in an effort to locate the abductors and secure the release of the victims.

“Soldiers are already in the bush combing it to fish out the perpetrators and free the couple,” he stated 

The police boss said that the vehicle conveying the victims was found parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.

While explaining that the abduction  occured around the border communities linking Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states, Ojo said police operatives from the three states were working together on the rescue operation.

He added that security agencies across the affected states were coordinating efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
