Police in Kwara State have arrested a 25-year-old man, Salihu Seidu who allegedly killed his 65-year-old father-in-law, Lawal Umar, on the excuse that the father-in-law was responsible for the death of his (Seidu’s) son.

The incident happened at a Fulani camp in Agah village in Moro Local Government Area of the state.

The police said Seidu had an unfounded belief that his father in-law used a metaphysical means to kill his son and therefore decided to avenge the killing by killing the old man.

The state commissioner of police, Adekimi Ojo, who briefed newsmen of the development said the suspect carried out the act when he travelled from his own Fulani camp in Temidire to the deceased’s camp in Agah village where at the tent of the man he attacked him with machete.

Ojo said Seidu launched the attack at night using the machete to hack the man to death while other occupants of the tent had slept

He said the suspect after carrying out the act fled but was later apprehended by the police at his Temidire camp

He stated: “On 6th October 2026, at about 0900hrs, we received a report that Alhaji Lawal Umar,

“In the course of our investigation, Salihu Seidu, the deceased’s 25-year-old son-in-law, was arrested at Temidire Fulani Camp on 9th October 2026 following a tip-off.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect travelled from Temidire to the deceased’s camp on the night of 6th October, entered the tent while other occupants

were asleep, and attacked the deceased with a machete before fleeing.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the killing, claiming that he believed the deceased was responsible for the death of his son about two weeks earlier. “

Ojo said investigations were ongoing to determine whether any other person was involved in

the crime and disclosed that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the

investigation.

The police boss also disclosed arrest of three suspects over dealings in skulls of buried deceased in Omupo town in Ifelodin Local Government Area of the state.

He said two of the suspects who are siblings and of whom one  is a cripple engage in exhuming  deceased bodies at burial ground and severing their skulls while they sell the severed skulls to the third suspect, a herbalist.

Ojo who disclosed that people of the community had noticed that buried  bodies were being exhumed at the community’s burial ground said through painstaking intelligence the two suspects were  later caught in the act while digging graves at about 5am

Ojo disclosed that investigation by the police led to the arrest of the third suspect after the two suspected had allegedly confessed to the act.

He said that the three suspects whose names are given as Abu Jimoh and Ayo Jimoh (the siblings) and Mukaila Bello (the herbalist) would be charged to the court after conclusion of investigation.

The police boss also hinted of arrest of man suspected to be a member of kidnapping gang operating some parts of the state.
