Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State, Zakari Mohammed, has promised priority attention to projects that will directly improve lives of people of the state if elected governor in 2027.
Mohammed who made the promise while addressing newsmen at his campaign office in Ilorin said he would prioritise infrastructure, education, electricity supply and the welfare of residents.
The governorship candidate who is a former member of the House of Representatives, pledged to transform Kwara within four years.
He said that the state needed a government capable of making independent decisions, managing public resources responsibly and prioritising projects that directly improve people’s lives.
Mohammed stated that the state’s natural and human resources should be harnessed to stimulate economic growth, improve infrastructure and create opportunities for residents.
He advocated a governance model that would promote collective participation rather than concentrate decision-making in the hands of a few individuals or vested political interests.
The governorship candidate assured residents that an ADC-led administration would begin implementing reforms immediately upon assumption of office, promising visible improvements within its first four years.
He stated:”From day one, you will see positive changes, and within four years, it will be a different state from what we have today.”
Mohammed, who represented Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019, chastised the Nigerian leadership for persistent socio-economic challenges in the country
While expressing worry that Nigeria had yet to translate its abundant natural resources into meaningful development for its citizens, the politician said that the country “is due for positive change”
He stated that the country needed a new political direction to address its longstanding challenges.
Mohammed expressed concern over the state of electricity supply in the country as he said that decades of promises by successive governments had failed to deliver reliable power supply to Nigerians.
The politician who recalled that expectations were high when Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999 said it was worrisome that dependable electricity remained elusive despite successive administrations’ assurances.
He decried the standard of education on the country as he said that opportunity for quality education for students was declining.
He enjoined citizens to reflect on the country’s development trajectory and demand accountability from political leaders.
Also speaking at the event, a chieftain of the ADC, Professor Yisa Gana, criticised the state of electricity supply, education and infrastructure, questioning why Nigerians continued to experience inadequate public services despite years of promises by successive administrations.
Gana said that the ADC offered an alternative to the political and economic challenges facing the country.
The politician urged voters to assess political parties and their candidates based on performance, accountability and their commitment to public welfare rather than party affiliations.
He said that Kwara State needed a government that would operate in the interest of its people, encourage broad participation in decision-making and ensure that citizens had a voice in policies affecting their lives.
The ADC chieftain stated the state’s development potential could be better realised through effective management of its natural and human resources, alongside investments in infrastructure and other sectors capable of improving living standards.
He expressed optimism that an ADC administration under Mohammed would introduce positive changes and pursue policies aimed at addressing the needs of residents.
