Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its caucuses in the 16 local government areas of the state with the aim of making the party stand stronger for the 2027 general elections.
The PDP said a new structure that would witness new hands and broader participation will be put in placed on accross the local government areas to facilitate victory for the party at the elections.
The party decided on the dissolution after its State Executive Committee (SEC) and other key stakeholders held a closed-door meeting with its leader, Bukola Saraki, a former Senate President.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, said in a statement on Sunday that the dissolution would be followed by a comprehensive restructuring aimed at strengthening the party’s machinery ahead of the general elections.
The PDP spokesman said the party believed there was need to bring in new hands, broaden participation and create a more effective and inclusive political machinery that could secure electoral victories for it at all levels
He explained that the decision was within the powers of the State Executive Committee to take measures considered necessary to strengthen, reposition and reorganise the party in the overall interest of its members and its electoral prospects.
“The journey towards 2027 has effectively commenced, and the Party considers it necessary to refresh its structures, bring in new hands, broaden participation and create a more effective and inclusive political machinery capable of delivering victory for the PDP at all levels,” he stated
Adewara said that it was within the powers of the State Executive Committee to take measures considered necessary to strengthen, reposition and reorganise the party in the overall interest of its members and its electoral prospects.
The statement said the party expressed appreciation to members of the dissolved caucuses for their contributions, loyalty and sacrifices towards the growth of the party in the state
“We sincerely appreciate all members of the outgoing caucuses for their dedication, sacrifices, loyalty and contributions to the growth and development of the PDP in Kwara State,” it reads
The PDP while assuring members of the dissolved caucuses that the dissolution was not an end to their participation in the party, urged them to continue to make their experience and contributions available as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
The party disclosed that arrangements were already being put in place for the recruitment, constitution and inauguration of new caucuses across the state and urged calm, unity and commitment among all the members.
