Police in Kwara State have arrested six people over the killing of a man whose corps was recovered from a well.
The police said investigations carried out when the man identified as Sulaiman Riliwan of 29 years old was reported missing led to the arrest of the suspects
The incident happened in Offa town in Offa Local Government Area of the state.
The state police commissioner, Adekimi Ojo who briefed newsmen about the development said when it was reported that the deceased was missing after he had left his residence police commended investigations and discovered one of the suspects, Mohammed Jamiu was the person that had contact with him last.
Ojo said when Jamiu was arrested he conffessed to have conspired with the other suspects to kill Riliwan and dumped his corps in the well.
He said that Jamiu who had N20 000 with the deceased for business purpose suspected that the deceased had won about N80m through internet fraud and felt that the deceased should give him more the N20 000 he had with him
He said when Jamiu mentioned the matter to a friend of his, the friend advised him that they should get rid of Riliwan.
The police boss said Jamiu disclosed that after they had called Riliwan out they shot him severally to kill him.
He said the other five suspects, namely Fashola Abdulfatah, Daniel Gideon, Adegoke Oladimeji, Aliyu Yusuf, and Abubakar Ahmed were arrested after investigation of Jamiu while also disclosing that efforts were being made to arrest the fleeing suspects.
He stated: “On 28th July, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command received a report regarding
the disappearance of Sulaiman Riliwan, aged 29 years, who had been missing
since 26th July, 2026, after leaving his residence in Offa, Kwara State.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives immediately commenced a comprehensive
intelligence-led investigation. Investigative findings established that Mohammed
Jamiu, who had a business relationship with the victim involving the care of his
cattle, was the last known person to have had contact with him prior to his
disappearance.
“This critical lead prompted the immediate arrest of the suspect for further investigation.
The investigation subsequently established a criminal conspiracy involving the principal suspect, Jamiu Mohammed, and his accomplices.
“During interrogation, Jamiu Mohammed voluntarily confessed to his involvement in the commission of the offence and provided useful information that led detectives to an abandoned well in a bush at Offa, where the corpse of Sulaiman Riliwan was
recovered.
“The confession further generated actionable investigative leads,
resulting in the arrest of five (5) additional suspects believed to have played various roles in the planning and execution of the crime.
“Efforts are currently being intensified to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspect,
recover the firearm allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The police commissioners also disclosed of the killing of a 55-year-old man identified as Olanrewaju A. who was allegedly murdered by a close associate of his, Soliu Olanrewaju.
He said the deceased had earlier been reportedly kidnapped and that when the alleged kidnappers contacted his family they demand N2m before accepting N120 000 which the family paid.
Ojo said when the man was not released to the family as expected after the payment, investigation carried out by the police led to arrest of the suspect who confessed to killing of the deceased and took detectives to the scene where the murder was allegedly committed and where the body of the deceased was recovered.
