Tambuwal remains in ADC, has no intention of joining APC, says media aide

By Stephen Oladele

The media office of Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has debunked claims circulating on social media that the politician was preparing to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A statement signed by Special Adviser to the senator on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel, said the politician had no plan of joining APC and described the claim of such plan as false and baseless.

Daniel said Tambuwal, a former Speaker of House of Representatives, and former Governor of Sokoto State, had wide network of friendship and relationship across party lines maintained with mutual respect.

The media aide while saying that the relationship should not be misrepresented as a change in Tambuwal’s political allegiance argued that photographs and video clips being circulated in the social media as indicating the alleged plan to defect did not establish any defection plan.

He said Tambuwal remained a committed member of the ADC and urged his supporters not to be distracted by the report of a planned defection.

The statement reads: “The AWT Media Office categorically rejects claims circulating on social media that Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is preparing to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Tambuwal has no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded.

“Senator Tambuwal is a respected statesman and one of the few politicians in Nigeria with a wide network of friendships and longstanding relationships across party lines. These relationships reflect years of public service and mutual respect. They should not be misrepresented as evidence of a change in his political allegiance.

“The photographs and video clips being circulated do not establish any defection plan. Political civility is no proof of political realignment. Exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance.

“Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC. His focus is on strengthening the party, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“At a time when Nigerians are demanding answers to pressing economic, security and governance challenges, public discussion deserves substance and truth. Unfounded speculation must not distract from the urgent task of offering Nigerians credible leadership and a better future.

“We urge supporters and the public to remain focused on the work ahead. Senator Tambuwal’s commitment to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians remains unwavering.

“Media organisations and social media commentators should verify claims with the AWT Media Office before publishing them. Speculation must never be presented as fact.”
