President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday evening returned to the country after about a 4-week vacation in Europe
The president had left the country on 30th August with the announcement by the presidency that he was on a 3-week vacation.
However at the lapse of the three weeks when he was expected to resume office the presidency also announced that he had extended the vacation by few days.
When it became 21 days that he had been away on the vacation some Nigerians raised concern that the country was being left without a leader constitutionally in charge.
Among those who raised the concern are former Vice President, and Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar and presidential candidate of the AAC, Omoyele Sowore who alleged that failure of the president to resume after 21 days had led to the breach of the constitutional provision that the president when proceeding on vacation should transmit a written declaration to the National Assembly for the Vice President to be made the Acting President and that whrn such letter is not transmmited within 21 days the National Assembly should by simple majority mandate the Vice President to perform functions of the office of the president as the Acting President.
Tinubu’s arrival on Tuesday however seems to indicate immediate resumption of office as he is said to be scheduled for official engagements ahead of the nation’s 66th independent anniversary on Thursday.
The president arrived in Lagos from Paris aboard the Nigerian Air Force One which taxied into the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22 p.m.
While on the working vacation in Europe he had reportedly held official engagements, including meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and business leaders.
