Emir of Gwanara in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Sabi, has appealled to relevant authorities to ease the Gwanara district of difficulties of access roads for the district to be easily linked with its neighbouring communities
The monarch made the appeal at the weekend during this year edition of annual Gaani festival celebrated by the Gwanara community.
He said roads linking the district to Saki in Oyo State, Bukuro and Okuta in the Baruten local government were not motorable.
The traditional ruler said the poor state of the roads had stiffled commercial activities and hindered socio-economic growth of the district
He urged the government to consider construction of the roads to make the district more accessible and have its stagnant socio-economic development accelerated.
The monarch also appealled to the state government to upgrade the basic healthcare centre in the district to enable it serve people in the area better so that the people are speared of the rigour of travelling far distance for medical attention.
Alhaji Sabi who described the Gaani festival as a ceremony celebrated to promote culture and unity among people of the Gwanara community appreciated the turn-out of the people and the guests for this year edition of the event.
Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Salihu Yakubu Danladi who was also at the occasion described the festival as a cherished cultural heritage of the community.
Danladi who hails from the community and who was given a rousing welcome to the ocassion commended the turn-out of the people which he noted was massive.
He enthused that he was elated by the largeness of number of people who trooped out to welcome him to the ceremony saying that the people had by the rousing welcome showed that the district and the entire local government appreciated the decision of the APC in the state to pick its governorship candidate from the area.
The APC guber candidate who praised the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for efforts of his administration in developing the state said if elected the next governor his administration would build on the Abdulrazaq’s achievements for consistent development of the state
