By Ola Taiwo

Kwara State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two men over alleged vandalisation of transformer cables and other electricity infrastructure.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were said to have allegedly committed the offence at Tanke-Iledu area of Ilorin

The NSCDC said it arrested the suspects after receiving credible intelligence about their activities.

The security agency said its operatives acted on the intelligence and carried out an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

It said during the operation and subsequent search it recovered from the suspects vandalised transformer cables, outer and inner cable peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife and a pair of electrical gloves.

The command said preliminary investigation showed that the suspects were allegedly linked to the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community.

It said efforts were ongoing to track down other persons suspected to be involved in the alleged vandalisation.

The state commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, stressing that the command would not allow the state to become a haven for vandals and economic saboteurs.

Mohammed assured that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to protect critical national infrastructure and safeguard public assets across the state.

The NSCDC said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation and establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
