Ogun State police command has arrested six people over alleged operation of baby factory in Mowe area of the state.

The command which made the arrest when it raided the facility rescued two pregnant women and four children during the raid 

The command said its operatives carried out the raid following sustained intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities in the area.

Spokesman of the command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, in a statement, disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 8:00 a.m. on August 24, 2026.

Opeyemi said  that the factory was located on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.

The statement identified the two rescued pregnant women as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.

It said that the four rescued  children comprise two boys and two girls.

The police spokesman said further investigations led operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.

“While the mother was met receiving medical treatment, the whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant,” he stated.

The suspects arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

The command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for a comprehensive investigation.

It said the investigation would focus on determining the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locating the missing newborn and bringing anyone found culpable to justice.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, as commending the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational effectiveness.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling networks involved in human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information about suspicious activities.
